Persimmon Home VII - The Continuing Saga
What I would give to have the floors finally sorted out!
As I wrote before, the laminate was laid down in the dining room on Thursday. We had realised that the laminate was a slightly different colour from the original, but not too much of a difference.
On Saturday, my wife had a second look, this time comparing a sample with the laminate on the floor and we realised that we have the wrong laminate!

The sample we originally chose (and the sample that FDL Flooring sent us prior to laying the replacement flooring), has a 'grain' on the surface. This gives the laminate a closer approximation to the look and texture of real wood, and was one of the reasons we chose it.

The floor that has been laid down is smoother than a baby's posterior. The photos show the difference (see how differently the light reflects off the surfaces?

Now, thinking about events:
1.We got hold of the original sample that we used when choosing the laminate in the first place.
2.We were sent a sample of laminate by FDL Flooring, and it matched reasonably well (the grain wasn't quite as detailed, and the colour was very slightly different, but to all intents and purposes, the match was very close indeed)
3.We agreed to have that flooring laid down.
4.Scott Bryson, the site agent, pops round and 'helpfully' offers to take away the samples for us - so that they're out of the way. Note: it is unusual for him to be particularly helpful in our experience.
5.Laminate is installed.
It's an interesting course of events. It was by pure chance that we happened to get the original sample back - I'm not even sure how it happened. The sample just appeared when the joiner came by with a replacement door...
In hindsight, I find it very 'coincidental' that Scott decides to take away our only means of comparison, just prior to the wrong laminate going down on the floor...
I'll let you make up your own conclusions as to what has transpired here...
Anyway, today I'm going to phone up both the site agent and FDL Flooring to find out what happened. I'll post the details back here.
