My Persimmon Home
Well, here is day one of my new House blog.
Yup, bought a new house. It looks great (from the outside), but it remains to be seen if the builders (Persimmon Homes) sort out all of the snags we found.
So far, we have recognised 103 snags with the builder, and they have managed to fix 23.
However, by far the worst snag is the uneven floor on the ground floor.
You see, it's a concrete floor, that was badly laid by the contractors (I'm not sure who did it, but I'll post the details when I know for sure). -- Update: It was Harte Construction --
Persimmon knew that the floor was uneven, but did nothing about it.
When we reserved our house, we asked Persimmon to put down laminate flooring in the Hall, Vestibule, and Dining Room, and to lay down ceramic tiles in the Kitchen, Utility Room, and Cloak Room. This cost as a couple of thousand on top of the price of the house.
It's a mess!

Note that the spirit level (a 600mm one) in not even level, so the dip in the floor is actually worse than it looks in the photo!
Today, they finally sent round a tiler who has started to lift the tiles in the kitchen with the goal of leveling the floor off with some leveling compound, then lay new tiles.
Unfortunately, I see that the kitchen units are not even sitting square on the kitchen floor!!!

It's a depressing (and angering) time, make no mistake!
On top of that, the tiler explains that his company didn't want to put the tiles down on the uneven floor, but Persimmon pushed them to do it - only after signing a document exonerating the tile company from any liability if the customer (me) was unhappy with the floor.
In other words, get the customer into the house (get his money) and sort out any mess later (makes sense from a cash flow perspective, but not exactly customer centric!).
Anyway, as is with blogs, I'll use this site to keep a diary of what goes on from this point forth.
For what it's worth, we've been in the place for over two months, and this is as far as the builders have got with regards to the floor.
At least, tomorrow, the contract manager (Tom) is coming round to look at the problems. Let's see what his reaction is...
