My Persimmon Home II
Well, it's been a couple of days, and a few interesting developments (no pun intended) have happened.
After putting some pressure on the 'Customer Care' team, I get hold of 'Tom', their contracts manager. He seems sympathetic, but action is what I need.
He arranges for the tiler to return to lift the remaining tiles from the floor.
Meanwhile, I have a tiler (paid by me) coming round to lay our new tiles on the conservatory floor. He starts work, gets so far, then decides that even the conservatory floor is out too much to do a decent job. He has to stop (and I have to pay him for the work done so far). Leaving me to lift the tiles, and clean them off so they can be relaid once the floor is evened out.
Bloody annoying is being mild regarding my reaction (somewhat milder than my wife's reaction!!!
Back on the phone to Tom, who, to his credit, comes round fairly quickly to the house.
He agrees that the conservatory floor needs screeded to level it off, and he agrees to lay our tiles for us (so I'm only out of pocket by £90). So a bit of good news.
Just to show you how bad the floor has been, have a look at this little beauty:
---ZOOM---
The floor almost disappears, and they still tried to tile over the top!! Incredible!
Tom arranged for some guys to come round today and:
- lift all the laminate (vestibule, hall, dining room
- clean up all the floors
- level all the floors
- lay new laminate
- lay new tiles in the kitchen, utility room, and cloakroom
- lay our tiles in the conservatory
So far so good.
The guys come round first thing in the morning, lift the laminate and start work - they only get as far as starting to level the conservatory floor when 2pm arrives and they're off till Tuesday!
Mind you I don't blame them, it's a nice day outside and they're supposed to be on holiday this weekend.
Oh well, now I have a lovely (lumpy) concrete floor downstairs for the next three and a half days.
The fridge is in the lounge, along with a table and some chairs (as well as the more usual living room furniture). The new dining room furniture is still in the garage, boxed up and unchecked (for a month!), and we are trailing concrete dust all over the house - well, we're trying to avoid that, but...
Maybe in a couple of years, it will all be sorted out, and I can kick back and laugh at these recent weeks... Nah, I'm sure I'll still be bitter and twisted!
More to come...
