Persimmon Homes III

So, quite a few days have passed since my last entry, although not too much has happened...

Harte, the contractor responsible for the concrete floors, have finished their job. Well, they thought they'd finished last week and simply didn't turn up on Friday.

Nobody said anything, and there we were, waiting on Friday for someone to arrive - well, I wasn't as I was away on business, but my wife was miffed at hanging around all day on the off-chance of some hard working visitors...

About the only useful thing that happened was that the site agent, after a complaint from my wife, sent round some cleaners to do some tidying up - bear in mind, my wife had to complain about the mess before the cleaners were called in...

You wouldn't believe how much concrete dust collects over a few days, nor the amount generated by folk trying to level a floor! :-/

Anyway, when Harte vanished on the Thursday, they left piles of dust lying around, and a bucket and a brush.

The cleaners cleaned up all the dust (well, they missed one pile!), and cleaned around the kitchen, so at least my wife can cook some food without choking on dust!

Interestingly, the cleaners are the only folk (so far) who have displayed any sympathy for our situation!

Everyone else comes on site, and works as if the house was unoccupied!...

In retrospect, Persimmon should have arranged for the cleaners to come round at the end of each day to tidy up. All the other days this work has been going on, my hard working wife has been left to clean up the dust and crap left behind by the workers (hey, don't look at me, I've been mostly travelling on business!).

The weekend was reasonably quiet - having to take shoes off before going upstairs, and put them on again when we come back down - a bit of a pain.

Monday arrived (24th July), and nobody turned up! Great communication! :-(

After yet another call to the site agent and the contracts manager, we eventually find out that Harte thought they had finished the leveling job, and we just need to wait for the tiler and flooring folk to turn up.

Aye, well, a quick plonk about with a spirit level soon showed up areas still out by far too many millimeters.

Harte turned up yesterday and did a better job. It's still not within my expectations, but today the site agent and contracts manager both turned up (I'm on business *again*!) and showed my wife that the floor is within their spec.

Tiles are now scheduled for tomorrow morning, and the rest of the flooring 'sometime'...
